Welcome to Miami Film Workshops: Screenwriting and Filmmaking workshops designed and taught by Harriette Yahr. We offer ongoing classes that provide personalized instruction and hands-on learning. Class size is very limited.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Founder and head instructor Harriette Yahr is an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and instructor. Yahr grew up in Miami Beach (born in New York), attended Ransom-Everglades in Coconut Grove, then went on to receive her B.A. with Honors in Film Studies from Dartmouth College. She also received two Citations for Academic Excellence in Science and Music. Yahr received her M.F.A. from the University of California with a 4.0 GPA. Her films have screened at festivals worldwide (including Telluride and the Miami International Film Festival) and won many awards.

Yahr also writes on film; work has appeared in publications such as indieWIRE, DOX (Denmark), Salon.com, Miami Herald, BlackBook, and many more. Her latest short, BAKER'S MEN, is distributed by Spiritual Cinema Circle, has aired on the Sundance Channel and LOGO. Yahr regularly covers festivals such as Sundance, and has worked in distribution, sales and film acquisitions for Seventh Art Releasing.

She has received many grants, including an NEA Regional Fellowship, and spoken on film festival panels, from Miami International Film Festival to Atlanta to Nashville, from Seattle to Ankara, Turkey. Yahr has taught filmmaking at the University of Miami, guest lectured at Dartmouth, New York Film Academy, and more. Her experience is wide-ranged -- from writing to directing, producing, editing, shooting, and distribution. Yahr enjoys passing on her knowledge to others and considers teaching to be a gift.

WHY MIAMI FILM WORKSHOPS? Yahr has worked off-and-on in Miami for many years and saw a need in South Florida for screenwriting and film workshops packed with super-helpful information and taught in a short blast of time. With inspiration to boot! The workshops are designed to "Fast-Forward" you into your film/writing future. Whether you're working on a project or are a total newbie -- or you have lost your way, now stuck in a quagmire of doubt -- you'll walk away with loads of useful and inspiring info.

Miami Film Workshops partners with art and film organizations in South Florida to teach workshops. Previous classes were held at Miami Light Project, Art Center South Florida, and Miami Beach Cinemateque.

Yahr teaches traveling workshops; if you have a group eager to learn, feel free to contact her. A screenwriting teleclass is in the works (stay tuned) and she works remotely with students one-on-one. Yahr recently finished a terrific workshop in Maui, Hawaii; Here is a picture of the happy writers.
